Around 20% of Hong Kong's urban area is covered by greenery, comprising various types of green spaces, from nature parks and waterfront promenades to urban parks. They offer the public a place to slow down amid the urban bustle. But have you ever stopped to notice the types of trees in these green spaces and the roles they play? Beyond adding greenery to the cityscape, trees help reduce the urban heat island effect, strengthen flood prevention, improve air and water quality, and enhance biodiversity, making our city a more liveable place. In this talk, arborists from the International Society of Arboriculture Hong Kong Chapter will take you on an exploration of the features of landscape trees and the considerations behind landscape selection.
